Bee Buzz Update

The LA Times reports that researchers may have found the cause of the disappearing bees, known as Colony Collapse Disorder.

Rumor had it that it may be our cell phones that disorientated the bees so the little guys couldn't find their hives. But in reality and more likely, it is a parasite. Read on...

Fresh Apps For MybabyT

MybabyT is just about finished as far as the tweaking and installing goes. With a new system it was time to run some new apps and get the system up-to-date with the latest in firewall, anti-virus, pdf reader and a mobile sync utility.

Let me share with you some of the new apps I am now using:

Anti-virus: avast! 4 Home Edition is not only free but is pretty cool. I typically don't like pop ups and annoyances like that, but I really don't mind a sound file notification that has some guy telling me that a potential infection has been detected. Plus it provides email scanning that AntiVir PE lacked. The only dealeo with this software is that you have to register and they will send you the license key. No big whoop since we all have a "just4crap" email account.

Firewall: My all time favorite ZoneAlarm. (This link takes you to the download. For more info, click here) I upgraded to the 38mb version after installing and tweaking MybabyT. I performed a Clean Install, figuring that the firewall didn't have a clue anymore as to what to allow and what not to. Seems to be working perfectly now, since I was having some issues with the wireless network card.

PDF Reader: It was way past time for me to use Foxit Reader. Let me quote PCWORLD. "In our experience, when it comes to viewing PDF files, Foxit Reader beats Adobe Reader hands-down." Need I say more?

Mobile Sync Software: I upgraded and am now using ActiveSync 4.5 for my Treo. Not really sure if I need to do it, but it seems to work just fine with syncing my Outlook using Bluetooth software installed on MybabyT.

Email Changes From AT&T

AT&T Yahoo! service is making some security improvements and these changes will affect members who send or receive email from a desktop or mobile client program, such as Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, Eudora, Apple Mail, or Thunderbird.

You can download the AT&T Self Support Tool and select Cannot send/receive email from the Self Support Tool Main Interface to run an email settings check. When prompted to change your email settings, select Yes.

Internet Router In Space

I know how often I have to reset my router, (thanks AT&T) and found this article interesting enough to post.

Identity Theft

No matter how careful we may be on protecting ourselves against identity theft, there are other sinister forces working against us.

I just received a letter from my previous employer, Bank of America, that a laptop was stolen containing information on a limited number of current, former and retired Bank of America associates.

Yes, that's right, I am one of the lucky few and now the target of identity theft. This lowlife loser now has access to my name, address, date of birth and social security number.

When I called the bank's 800 number, as instructed on the letter with regards to this good time, the representative said that the laptop has a log on id and this would deter the bad guy from accessing the information. As if that is some sort of safeguard. Paleezee!

I got an idea...encrypt your sensitive data dudes! Laptops get stolen everyday. Why should I or anyone else have to pay the ultimate price of this inexcusable violation to our good name and credit because companies like Bank of America have not spend the time, resource and monies it requires to encrypt this information? Also, re-train your employees not to recklessly leave their laptops lying around anywhere! Not in their cars, a clients office or sitting on their desks at night when they leave for the day.

As a side note, they offered to enroll me in their Privacy Assist Premier service free for 2 years. Can you believe they asked me for my social security number to enroll in it?

Storm Worm Outbreak

Just a heads up that there is a virulent attack out there of a Trojan worm that disables security software, steals confidential information from your PC.

We all know better than to open emails from people we don't know even if it says Virus Outbreak, Worm Alert, etc.

Just delete those unknown emails, and even if it comes to you from someone you may know, don't open the attachment if it is warning you of a virus, because its more than likely just that, a virus. Safe surfing! Read on...
