Troubleshooting Tip Of The Day

Detect and Repair is gone from the Office 2007 and has been replaced with Microsoft Office Diagnostics. It is a series of diagnostic tests that can help discover why a computer is crashing (closing abnormally). The diagnostic tests can solve some problems directly and might identify ways that you can solve other problems.

I know, because I was working on a Vista system and wondering why it was behaving badly, crashing and acting crazy. After looking at the event viewer I was unable to identify what was wrong and why all the errors.

Low and behold, when I ran the diagnostic in WORD, it indicated bad RAM. After using I was able to identify the bad stick.

Now it's back to as normal as Vista gets.

Here is how to access and run the Office Diagnostic:

  • Click the Microsoft Office ButtonButton image, and then click Access   Options, Excel Options, PowerPoint Options, or Word Options.
  • Click Resources.
  • Click Diagnose, click Continue, and then click Start Diagnostics.

    NoScript For Firefox

I finally decided to install the for Firefox to block scripts from executing in my browser. No more Java, Flash and other plug-ins that may infect my system with malware.

It seems pretty simple to authorize the sites that are trusted and I don't see a downside to enabling this tool (Winner of the "2006 PC World's World Class Award") which helps make Firefox the safest browser around.

Sure, Bauer is saying, "Dude! I told you about this years ago and you are now just installing it?"

    Wounded Inflatables

Every year I figure that the holidays bring a little bit more peace and joy to the world, if not just for a few more minutes than we typically see throughout the year. Goodwill, giving, and the holiday spirit.

    Have they no shame?

But what if when you use certain programs to edit files on a home computer that uses Windows Home Server, the files may become corrupted when you save them to the home server?

Why that just might defeat the purpose of having a server where you store all your data, eh?
